Default Lifespan of a drive belt?

When should we change the belt? I know before it breaks, ha. Is there a time limit or mileage that we should just do it just because? I need new tires, 100k on the bike should i just do it now? The belt still looks good. Thanks for your advice.

Changed mine at 70k but only because i put on a smaller sprocket. Belt looked good and i saved it with the old sprocket. Tires won't last that long check it again when you put on the next tire.

It depends on what you ride and how far from home you travel.
Changed mine at 135k because I was taking long trips on my Softail and they are a bear to change did not want the hassle away from home.
If you stay close to home or have a non Softail, ride and don't worry about it until it breaks,

100K it's time for a belt and probably at least a trans pulley , I'd change both pulleys at this point they do wear .

I have a friend who is a HD Master Mechanic who started his own shop and this is the advice he gave to me.

100,000 miles is a ton to me! I that's true, I'll never change it. At my age, I doubt I'll have the bike that long.

At 120K I noticed the belt ribs were starting to break loose along the inner belt surface. It was the same on all of the ribs indicating even wear.

I probably should have replaced it at 100K and will on my newer bike.

Depends on how badly you beat it. i lost one after about 13,000 miles of beating. It just broke while I was chirping the tire away from a gas pump. It broke straight across the belt. I'm going to go with the "defective belt" theory. I've seen lots of belts stand up to real long term abuse and never broke.

I'll probably do it at 100k - I'm at 91,000 now - so it'll be late summer after my road trip to Illinois. To me that's just a good marker to change it. I've had absolutely NO problems with it at all - a total non-issue (I love these drive belts!). It looks fine, but I may just change it "just because". Hey at 100k you can only give it a high-five and smile, cuz that's outstanding reliability.
