+1 on what Charlie said. It simplifies things.

please keep us posted on how this works out. i had the compensator replaced on my '09 and just recently on my '12 e.g. classic. thought the moco had figured this out a couple of years ago. had no idea that anyone even offered a compensator other than harley.

Thanks, tomorrows dyno day, and then bars/apes for the bike, sounds like they'll be out in time for a winter project.

I'm needing one now as well.
Constant noise from Primary (clutch in or out, only changes when put in first and clutch
pulled). Making the banging on occasion when starting, bad starts/back fires...
I'm ready.

Default I'm Waiting ...

Although the OEM on mine went out June last year (replaced with the SE unit) I'm not satisfied it is really any better... certainly not like the old steel models... so as soon as DH has these ready to go, I'm gonna replace the SE....

At the risk of asking a dumb question...what exactly does a compensator do? I read a lot about issues with them, but never quite understood what they were. I know that its basically a gear on the back of the crankshaft that the primary chain runs around. Looking at the pictures of the Darkhorse one it looks like it has a vibration damping/cushioning effect. Is that what fails on the stock ones?

It helps take the pulse out of the long stroke two cylinder to smooth the in the seat fill of cruising along. If you have ever drove one with a primary belt drive conversion, you would fill it. Lot of people would thin two drive belt would be smoother but it's not and eats up more HP then a chain drive. Harley actually has gone to a rubber damper in the rear drive pulley drive train protection. The compensator offers little protection since once it wind up about 35 degrees, it goes full metal to metal. Even a stock Harley can snap one to lock.

Is there a HP/Tq rating for this thing?
