Default cvo

Well I traded in the 2011 at 20k for a CVO so I can't say beyond that but she was running just fine at 20k! I already have over 5k on the 2015 CVO no plans to change anything from stock But then the moco already did that for me! Thanks for the response to this thread!

My '94 Evo has NEVER seen 230 degrees at the oil tank in its entire life. Standard running temp is 110 above ambient temperature (185 degrees on a 75 degree day).

Compared to my bike, yours runs hot.

heat kills engines. anything you can do to cool down the engine will contribute to it lasting longer. as said above my 92 evo runs very cool.

Bike will last longer with higher reliability if left stock.

Actually I've only seen it run close to 230 one time while waiting at a train crossing on a 95 degree day. Otherwise it stays below 200.

It's true that EPA laws forces to engineers to do their bikes restricted of performance to meet those environmental laws.

BUT, engineers has designed their engines to meet those laws and at same time to be reliable as possible.

Here in Europe old Harley engines like Shovels and EVOs are "exotic", rare to find.

Well, surprisingly the EVOs that you can find where I live are almost stock, no camshafts neither internal parts replaced, just pipes and sometimes air filter.

Most of engines failures are caused by wrong modifications using aftermarket parts with no knowledge about the matter.

Stock low performance = High reliability
Modified hight performance = Engine working with no warranties

Statistics don't lie.

If you want to get your engine last as longer as possible until rebuild, there are only a few improvements available to do, just use a good quality oil, replace it at correct intervals, try to don't ride rough and put an oil cooler if you live in a hot area.

Exactly. Engineers for larger (publicly owned) companies (like Harley) are paid to meet tolerances using the least amount of material. Additionally, HD doesn't want your bike to last forever. They want you to come back every few years for a new one. This all turns into more profit for the shareholders.

US manufactured aftermarket tends to not be publicly owned and typically overbuilds products so they can tout how their product is superior to stock.

I bet it will even last a lot longer if you never ride it - but like leaving it stock, who does that.....
