Does anyone like the 88 better than the 96/103?

My 88" is now a 95" carbed bike that I would not trade for any of the newer ones. The crank is forged and not cast, run out on my bike is 0.0015 and I am running gear drive cams, and the cam plate has bearings in it for the cam journals. I can do all the work on my bike, as it is really easy to work on. It runs cooler than the 96, 103, & 110 motors and I get really good gas mileage on long rides.

I wanted to know if anyone was like myself and enjoy the 88 twincam better than the 96/103.. I have owned both and find the 88 is a better bike here's why
1# the 88 revs up faster
2# the 5 speed is way more solid and just shifts nicer.
3# the 88 sounds better
4# the 88s run cooler... Way cooler I think
The biggest thing is they Rev up faster I just think there a better bike.. Anyone agree or am I alone?

I have a 88 with a 95 big bore kit and a cam and I love it. I had a friend ride my bike a week ago and he told me it was the smoothest bike he had ridden in a long time. I think it's cooler and smoother than a 96, and I like the 5 speed better than the 6. My niece (a HD tech) likes the 96, but she likes the 5 speed better to. By the way, her least favorite twin cam is the 110 because she sees more problems with that one than any other.

My 88 ran cooler, but I wouldn't trade my 103 for one. I think it's great you like yours so much. Everyone should like their bike that much. If not, what's the point of having it?

I rode a 103 Fat Boy last year (as well as several other 96 and 103 bikes) and that bugger was hot! Burned the crap out of my right thigh. I now know why Captain Itch makes those crotch protectors! I have no idea how much cooler the 88 runs but geez that 103 burned.
I've been on other models and didn't have the same issue. Like the Street Glide I rode the other day. That said, I liked how well the 103 pulled. I want to test the new Low Rider soon to see how well it works in the lighter chassis.

I agree with the better shifting. My 2000 Deuce shifts like a dream. My 96's, 103's and 110 shift okay but just not as sweet.
The 88 is a great engine and performs great. But my favorite is the high output 103 in the 14's. My 14 King along with the better frame from 2009 and the stiffer triple trees and bigger diameter is a great blend of handling and performance.
Time marches on.
