I think this may be the video you are looking for.

It dangerous. .. and awesome. But the rattler is a much better ride though. Just west of Maggie valley.

I was there about 3 weeks ago. She's full of it.

I've ridden a bunch of times, it's cool to "check the box", but I agree with others that there are a lot better roads to ride. The squids passing everywhere and guys getting sucked in way over there heads. The Cherohala Skyway is an awesome ride with some great views too. When I lived in that part of the world it's where I would be found.

16 of us rode California Highway north from San Francisco till it joined 101,, then up to Crescent City.

When we stopped for gas, one of the guys who's ridden the Tail several times said, "Now THAT's a road! Tail of the Dragon is a ***** ride!"

Screw 311 turns in 11 miles let's do 200 miles, and at least half of it in 1st or 2nd gear.

That's not a bad stretch , get all the way north where Rt1 starts up in the state park on the Olympic peninsula outside of Vancouver and stay on it coming south .

Come out of the backside of Crater lake on the north side and take that canyon rd to the coast with a logging truck hot on your taillight , follows the river and in some places a 1000' straight up all around you , exhilarating is an understatement .

Ride the Snake river canyon the full lenght some time , awesome is and understatement .

I can make a long list of these ,
