J&S Jack VS. HF lift
#11
I've been using a HF MC Jack for over a year now. I compared the HF with the Sears and looked at the J&S. they almost all look like they were built in the same shop. I bought the HF for $60. I haven't had a minutes problem out of it. the mechanism for all three is the same as well as the locking system is the same wedge locks. The width is the same thus stability should be the same. Only difference i saw was the price.

I had my J&S and Sears jack side by side before I dumped the Sears.....No comparison..... And, if you want to check stability, try to get on your bike when it's up in the air on a Sears of HF jack. Actually, I wouldn't......... If you're patient, you can find folks unloading J&S jacks. I got mine on craigslist for less than $300.

The Titan, which I am quite pleased with.

OP; one bad HF lift experience doesn't make it a bad product...many pleased owners prefer lift table over bike jack. Great write-up, but seems a bit bias...JMO.

I understand that one bad experience doesn't make it a bad product. I just documented my experience of both...I don't understand how you can call it biased?

Would love to have a J&S....they are awesome quality (plus made in America). When I had to go purchase a jack for my bike last fall, I didn't have the cabbage for a J&S one...and HF had a big super sale plus another coupon that landed me their bike jack for 54 dollars or something in the 50's including shipping. It's similar to the one in Sharpies picture, but branded "Pittsburg Automotive" and gray in color.
My bike has been up on it all winter. Moved it around quite a bit. Steady, fine. May not be the best quality hydraulics in there...but once you pump it up, you very simply put that lock bar in place and it stays up there just fine. Yup I trust my 700+ pounds of Shovel on it. (probably down to 550 pounds right now cuz my rear wheel, rear end, and half my primary is out).

nice write up
I do have a HF table lift that looks much like yours (mine does have the feature for using air -- but I have not used it)
I have had my EG on it many times without any problems, I bought the standard 39 or 49 dollar wheel chock (used a coupon so the price was less). There was no misalignment
I don't like trying to push the bike on the lift by myself -- but I will ride it on and was mentioned you need side riggers (which I built) so you have somewhere to put your feet for balance.
I also have a Goodyear Racing Jack which I bought from Costco -- the last time I had my bike on it - I just didn't feel confident in its ability (never had any issues or a bike fall over) -- it just didn't feel right.
Bottom line -- I do plan on getting a J and S jack -- after watching the video and many reads on the discussion board. Which means I''ll be selling the Goodyear Racing Jack.
My wife's bike does not have a frame (Yamaha Virago) so a floor jack doesn't work with it. So I am probably going to keep the table lift ( I don't mind rolling the bike on the lift as the bike weighs less than 500 lbs). The Virago has a center stand which I use to change tires etc - but keep the HF table lift would raise it so I am not crawling around on the ground working on other aspects of it. (But on second thought -- really don't need that - so will probably sell)
