Why I need to buy a vest or Harley t-shirt
 

I went to a dealer last Saturday to buy a gasket. Parts counter had two people working, one involved with a customer who had a lot of questions on a lot of parts.
One guy in front of me.
By the time I was up there were three people behind me.
The clerk asked the person behind me what he could do for him. Okay says I, no problem.
When the first clerk was free again, he also approached the person behind me.
This time I was a bit annoyed, but still patient. A third clerk finally came to the counter and approached another person behind me.
He of course did not know who had been there the longest and that was certainly forgivable. "Pardon me, I was next here", says I in a polite but firm voice.
"Oh sorry, what can I do for you?" was his courteous reply.
After I ordered the gasket, I told him that I had been passed by a couple times, more in passing conversation than a complaint.
He looks me up and down, a blue Patagonia soft-shell, orange t-shirt and tan North Face cargos, and says laughingly, You have to get yourself a vest or a Harley t-shirt or something. I'm sure they thought you were in the wrong line."
Taking a moment to survey the room, I was, after all, the only person in the dealership without the uniform.

Vest actually serves a purpose other than getting you customer service.... It will keep your shirt from beating you to death on long rides.

Ha! I kind of make it a point to not wear HD stuff when I go order parts. I don't have any problems getting the parts folks to help me. I do have a couple riding friends who DO put on their "Harley Uniform" when they drive their minivans to the HD shop.

Although the owner has razzed me a few times, he tells me I dress like a "Gym Coach" -In summer, unless I ride the bike there, it's generally shorts, gym shoes, and a sleeveless t-shirt, not black. In winter, it's my black with white stripes running suit.

-Cracks me up! The parts folks are all fine though!

And you just thought a Harley shirt was for looks! See...it's a free pass to get into and be served at dealerships.

Did you buy a shirt after that? I'm betting you didn't.

Cool story brah.

I don't own one single garment of Harley attire because I refuse to be classified like that. When people dress up in Harley gear, they put themselves into a category of individuals. I don't like to be "categorized". I am my own man, separate from everyone else.

When I go to the dealer, I just show some cleavage and have no problem getting waited on. Oh wait, that's my girlfriend's tactic :)

yes, but did you have your Harley approved socks on? That will make difference with your warranty.
