Sportster seekers beware

Good Luck to you.... get yourself the factory service manual and have at it. Sounds like some minor stuff to tend to, which will help you become familiar with it.
There is another forum specific to Sportsters.... XL Forum ..... I have spent a great deal of time there. Like this joint, it does offer lots of good info, lots of ragging/tagging, some will bust your chops, others will give you the shirt off their back. In all it is an excellent forum for Sporty's... just as this is an excellent forum for HD owners!!!

sorry to see you have issues but even when hd was crapola, their machines were only as good as the people who bought them. my 1974 ch still going at 175k miles with basic maintenance till recent when i tore down for frame paint and decided to up the ponies. this was at 150k miles and the wear was nill and jug taper around .006 and a .010 cleaned it up. the original pin wear was really not measurable since i did not have the original setup, anyway i replaced it with s&s wheels for the remake.
my 2001 sport still humming and i flog the crapola out of it, built as a high speed machine and i take it t 7.5k rpm many times and will peg out the speedo when i drop out of third.
so it is what it is.

Get rid of it before you have more into it than you can afford to let it go for. I see shovelheads and older dynas all day long for $6k
You may have to put money into them but at least you won't have a bike worth $2500 and be $7k out of pocket.
I have an old Ford, I have about 10k in it, it's worth $2500 bucks. Rats chewed up the wiring harness, that's what started the whole thing. Then it was tires, exhaust, starter, alternator, fuel pump, heater core, windshield wiper motor, ac pump and that's just what's on the top of my head.
Not worth it, just my 2 cents, take it for it is. Hope it all works out.

Not a bad bike
I bought a used 05 1200 custom with 5000 miles on it .4 yrs later with 15000 on it the only problem I had was a bad grounds cable .I like my bike. And I want to install a monster 9p inch big bore kit can't wait .you have just about rebuilt your bike .but upping to 1200 would be a good deal for you .
