Default Siphon broke off in my gas tank.... Problem or NO Problem?

I was helping someone who ran out of gas when maybe a 10 inch rubber hose broke off inside my gas tank.

Rather than getting into details of how that happened..... The bike runs just fine.

Here is my question.: WILL THE GAS DECOMPENSATE THE RUBBER AND CREATE A PROBLEM?

I am having my 10,000 mile service (2017 Ultra LTD) and am wondering if I should tell the mechanic. I do not want for them to take the tank apart but if it has to come out that is a different thing.

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Get yourself one of these, and, using a flashlight, you should be able to, eventually, fish the piece of tubing out.

Go to Harbor Freight or an auto parts store and get a mechanical fingers tool, not expensive. Then use a flashlight, locate the tubing and use the tool to grab it and pull it out. Probably what the dealer mechanic would do. Just be careful not to grab the fuel pump hose or other parts you should be able to see the siphon hose part pretty easily. The mechanical fingers tool is very useful for a lot of lost parts that are not magnetic and cannot be retrieved with a magnet retrieval tool. https://www.harborfreight.com/24-inc...ool-94162.html

Purple Glide & CB3646,

Thank you my friends. As I look into the gas tank, there is what looks like "shelves" so I am unable to look underneath the 1st shelf (top shelf) to even see the hose. Not even a small piece is sticking out.

I need to see the hose to make sure I am grabbing the right thing.

Thank you tho...

Buzz, just went to the garage and looked at my 2017 Ultra fuel tank, you are correct, lots of clutter in there. Fuel pump and Fuel Level Sender (probably the shelf looking thing). If it was me, I would not worry about it as the fuel filter should keep any particles out of the system. If your fuel gauge starts acting up, then you might want to have a dealer get the tubing out. Manual states it takes a special tool to remove the cam ring that holds the fuel pump and filter in. Looks like it can be accomplished on the bike so not too much labor to open the tank up. I would discuss with the dealer and see how much they would charge to open and look for the tubing. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks CB. I appreciate your taking ur time to check yours and write up your thoughts.

Wink

Take a look at an on-line parts website. You will see that the chrome tank console can be removed easily and underneath that is a large round plastic cover that holds the EFI stuff and includes the filler neck. That cover is retained by a locking ring which you can remove (carefully!), to get your whole hand inside the tank.

I have to confess that while I have a current 6 gallon tank on my older carb bike, I haven't messed with the EFI stuff, as I bought a bare tank.
