I settled with just a couple coats of Collinite 845 wax. The main reason for taking the speedo apart was to glass bead blast the chrome trim ring and giving it a couple coats of matte clear. All back together now.

Packs of silica have a life span. Once they absorb water to capacity they are then just dead weight. I only removed the trim ring and glass. The speedo housing is a sealed plastic unit I wasn't about the take apart.

If it's sealed, how the hell did the moisture get in there in the first place?

And that's exactly what I did.

Well, that all failed miserably. Once the speedo hits direct sun it fogs up worse than ever. Guess my crimping job on the refinished trim ring wasn't as good as factory. Put the speedo in front of a fan to dry it out and laid a bead of silicone around the bottom of the crimped area. See what that does. They obviously are trying to seal up the face and glass with the tight rubber seal under the trim ring with the glass in the groove.

I think you may be on a loser there. When instruments are sealed it has to be done in a controlled environment, otherwise whatever the humidity is in your home or garage is what you are sealing into the speedo.

If it works, it works. If not, I'll just order up another speedo since I cannot turn this one in under warranty because of taking it apart and hope for the best.

This morning I have the silicone sealed speedo set on the back window of the car in direct sunlight. No fogging what so ever. If the glass fogs up when mounted on the bike that means how it is mounted in the dash is what's causing the fogging - at least to me. I assume the cold tank metal and the warm speedo face temp differential is what's causing the issue. When I put everything back together I will put some sort of insulation between the tank and dash mount. Next up is applying 1/4" neoprene foam rubber self adhesive pad to the tank surface and bottom of the gauge dash to insulate the speedo housing from the colder tank.
