Motorcycle Lift/Jack
#11
OK, The comment on another jack thread....I guess my search skills suck as I tried to search the forum for a jack/lift thread figuring I'm not the first person that would have wanted help with that. But I didn't find one. So I guess maybe I should have started a "how to search for things" thread instead!

For $500+ could get a lift table vs simple floor jack.
I have a Big Red jack bought at local autoparts store (many use them for ATVs as well, so, local ATV store good place to look too)
One issue I've found is make sure the support plates are long enough (and overly long) to fit under the frame of the bike to support it. On older models frame is narrower, but on newer models its wider so sometimes it "just fits". This is my personal experience, others may differ.
Also the rubber on top (mine at least) gets chewed up in time. Took awhile to figure out what to replace it with that could withstand abuse.

Yeah, there have been a ton of threads on the subject as I recall, and the suggestion made to do a browser search is sage advice.
That being said, I have a Direct Lift table, which is awesome. I also have a HF yellow MC/ATV jack which I use from time to time. Both have proven to be useful over the years.
I have been re-arranging my garage this weekend to accommodate my new bike, and have my table positioned so that I can park the FatBoy on it:
I like that I can move it around relatively easily if I have a major project, but it is solid and stable as can be for longer term parking.

I looked at their (J&S) website just now and they really are expensive. (I bought mine used for $200 8 years ago and figured I was saving half.) But, just as I also got a $200 Pit Bull stand for the Kawasaki because I don't trust the $39.95 internet specials out there, I don't need to remind myself of how much money those jacks and stands are supporting when they're doing their jobs. I know that you can successfully get a bike off the ground for less money, and careful people will get away with it, but if you can afford the best, go for it.
