Default HD Dome Mirrors, can they be taken apart?

Hello,

can anyone help me with Harley's Dome Mirrors, as per https://www.harley-davidson.com/us/e...rs/p/92423-08A

My stems look really ugly, with color pealing off, so I wanted to get them powder coated. Is there a way of disconnecting the mirrors (including the housing) at the joint? I asked on the HD website, the received answers were rather useless though.
Possibly someone on here already solved this one?

Thanks in advance, niv

What happens when you remove the 2 screws on the back? I had always thought it would come apart if they were removed, haven't tried, yet. Mine look rough, though I have a different mirror it is similar on the back, but like the recommendations you received, I think I'll just find some new mirrors.

The two screws on the back hold the top part in position when you adjust it. When I loosened them, the mirror essentially sags down. I was not able to pull it "out", unfortunately. Did not pull too hard, but did not want to break it either...

Never tried separating those in particular but most mirror glass can be heated up with a heat gun. Evenly heating around the glass the glue will eventually let the glass come loose. A hair drier doesn’t get hot enough. G.

Too messy, you'll also need to clean the insides of the pieces in which the mirrors sit before sending them to the coater. Simple disassembly would be best...

Like a said, I plan to buy new mirrors. Not worth the hassle for me, though I might see if I can get the ones I have looking decent after I put new ones on.

I just always though they would come apart, but didn't think it would be easy.
