Default Trailering bike using open UHAUL trailer

Hi all, I am planning to trailer my bike this summer to Ontario from Nova Scotia. Roughly a 1600km trip. Now the roads through Nova Scotia, Quebec and into Ontario are filled with pot holls, bumps, cracks you name it so it will be a rough ride.
I was wondering if anybody has trailered there ride using an open UHAUL trailer and what they thought of it? Will my bike be secure enough without a motorcycle front tire trailer attachement? All I was planning on doing was strapping the s&%t of it.
Any comments, suggestions etc would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Ryan

If you dont have a wheel chock I would place something on each side of the front tire to prevent the tire from turning side to side. It's also a good idea to strap the front down from the engine guard.Use strap extensions.
If you do a search there are plenty more suggestions and maybe some pics.
Good luck!

it's been my experience not to bottom out the front shocks, but compress them about 1/2 way. I also strapped the front wheel to the front of the trailer.the tip for a front wheel chock is dead on. at least a 2X4 nailed to the floor on each side of the front wheel. I wouldn't use the handlebars but strap around the triple tree. I also run one strap through the back wheel and wrap the strap through the wheel several times. the idea is just to keep the back from 'dancing' around.

good luck and enjoy the ride.

They have MC trailers. Around here, anyway they do.

Their M/C trailer has a place for the front wheel.. see grey box in front of trailer. Works well, I took this one shopping when I went to look at 5 Harleys on my list.. bought the first one. Trailer rents for about $15 a day here.

For anyone interested as well, U-Haul only rents the mc trailers like in 66cruiser's post on a local basis. They have to be returned to the U-Haul station they were rented from and can't be dropped off at a different U-Haul once your one-way roadtrip is complete as with their standard cargo trailers.
