Whats the dealer does on a bikes first service
My bike is close to 1000 miles. I am wondering what the dealer does on the first bike service. My closest dealer is 90 miles away and if it ain't a major undertaking. I would prefer to work on my bike myself. I'm very mechanically inclined and love to work on my other bikes. So as long as I don't have to go into the engine, I can probably do it with no problem.

Nothin but take your money for something you can do yourself. Pick yourself up a service manual, you'll be glad you did.

Seriously though, what can go wrong in 1000 miles?

I think it's worth it for the first service. Call ahead, make sure they have your service manual so you don't have to come back for it. I wouldn't say it's a big deal to just take care of yourself, I just know I would go for the first service. Personal preference.

They (or yourself) should do everything that is in your owner’s manual. It is laid out at every service interval what should be done. If you do it yourself, document everything in case of warranty issues down the road.

Thanks guys was just wondering about it. The dealer wants $270 for this service. I thought it might be a little pricey. But the dealer says they change all fluids and check throttle cable and some other stuff. Does this price sound about right for this service or am I getting serviced without any KY jelly?

A service manual runs about $60.00 and is something that you will be able to use over and over again. You do the math.
