Removing the Stripes???
Hi there,
I am brand new to the HD Forum, and thought that I would say Hi to everyone, and jump right on it.
I just sold bought a 2007 Road Glide which is Cherry Black with that UGLY Red Stripe running through the Tank....the Fairing and the Bags.
I am wanting to know....how can one, remove that Stripe?
Is it just a Decal that is clear coated.......or.....is it actually a Painted on Stripe?
My guess.....from feeling it, is that it is just a Cleat Coated Decal.
How can I get that Stripe removed.....with out having to take off the Tank and the Fairing and the Bags in order to have the entire thing Repainted?
I am in Love with Black vehicles.
But that Stripe on the 2007 Cherry Black Road Glide......is really UGLY, to say the least.
Does anyone have any suggestions.....aside from Repainting the entire thing?
Looking forward to any advice, that you can send my way.
Thanks so much.

the stripes on standard bikes are indeed decals. they paint the parts, put the pinstripes on, then clearcoat the parts.
they can be removed and clearcoat re-applied but unfortunately it will require the parts to come off, go to a paint shop, and let them do it. It's actually not a difficult process but unless you're a painter, you'll never get the clearcoat correctly applied for varying reasons.
1. trash in the clearcoat
2. feathering the existing clearcoat takes work
3. prepping the parts after being sanded is a chore in itself.
4. temperature control
any decent paint shop will charge you about $500 for labor alone which doesn't include removing the tins.
now post a pic so we can see the "Hot Harley Girl"
