07 XL1200c runs rough at steady throttle
Hello all. I have a 07 xl1200c. 6K miles in mint condition. Runs really good when your on the pipe however when steady cruising it kinda surges and feels like a misfire. I know its not a misfire but it sounds like it. I'm not lugging the engine I know the difference and its only a 1200. Steady high revs its fine. According to the forums this is a common problem with the early EFI Sportsters. Vance N Hines pipes w/baffles and stock AC.
Next thing is I only paid 3500$ for it and don't want to drop almost a 3rd of that for a "pro dyno tune" when I see a upgrade in my future next spring
I've read some good stuff on here about the Dobeck or EJK 3.0-3.5 device and it's plug and play which I can do. Anyone have experience with this device or something similar. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Look at it this way, based on what you paid you can certainly justify the expense to get a smooth, responsive performing bike knowing that the bike is running its best.
Install a S/E a/c and take it to a qualified, experienced tuner and get it right the first time rather than chasing running issues on the Internet.
Bob
PS - If you paid $1000 for the bike it would be 100% of the cost to get it right.
On the other hand if the bike cost $40,000 it would be only about 2-3%. IMO it's simply not relevant.

I understand your point Bob for sure however like I said I am looking to upgrade to a low rider next spring or summer. I am just wanting to get the bike running decent. When I get a good deal on a bike and then sell it I like to make a little money or at least brake even. Don't want to loose money. Can't pay 1000$ to tune a 4500$ dollar bike. Maybe if I was gonna keep it for awhile. In all honestly the all might Harley Davidson should acknowledge there is a mapping issue on the 07 and push out a new FI map it fix it. I'd even pay the 30mins labor it would take to flash a new map. This FI stuff on all bikes and our regulations is ridiculous.....just saying.
