Default bike randomly stops running

2010 FXDWG suddenly will cease firing. Happens at no particular speed. Drift to the side of the road. Turn off, turn on, go. Starts and runs perfect for 5 minutes or 5 hours or 5 days til it does it again. Spark? Fuel? Cant analyse because it goes away when I put it on the kickstand. I'm thinking to buy a new crank position sensor before I just take it in to the shop Comments?.

Start by checking the basics:
  • Check for DTC Codes
    • possibly faulty relay?
  • Check your battery cables - tight at both ends, not just the battery posts.
    • Check battery cables for any damage, cuts, etc.
  • How old is your battery? Worth having it checked

  • Check for DTC Codes How do I read codes? Can I buy my own scanner?
    • possibly faulty relay? Yeah sure could be, I am going to buy an extra fuel pump relay and substitute
  • Check your battery cables - tight at both ends, not just the battery posts. Recent battery purchase, First thing I checked, It is good.
    • Check battery cables for any damage, cuts, etc New cables at time of battery purchase. Starter turns strong
  • How old is your battery? Worth having it checked Voltage regulator found to be defective Replaced with new
Replaced voltage regulator Friday.Hoping that solved prob rode hard for two days Broke down Saturday night right when bike shops all close. Open Tuesday. Bike starts instantly Work for the next six days Rode fine today Payday is Friday for last two weeks. Gonna screw around for two more weeks then put it in then put it in the shop. Damn the cost.

You can pull the DTC codes using your speedometer https://dgcustomcycle.com/tech/harle...es-04-present/

OK? no codes. It is getting worse. Frequency at onset: once every two days average. Frequency now: twice in a day. I live in a fairly level valley floor. I don't ride it further than I can push it back. Currently bike will start instantly and ride if and only if turned off and then on again. I no longer suspect the crank position sensor, I am focusing on bad contacts in the relays or perhaps in the kill switch. The bike could stall if current was interrupted without throwing a code.

Check any and all circuit breakers in the system, they'll heat up fault out then reset and do it again. We chased that gremlin for 400 miles on a road trip once.

tYour bike is stock, no recent changes? Another thing to check is your ignition switch. Does the key fit in snug, not loose?

Answer to suggestions there is no fob just a round actual key; Key is removed from bike when rolling so no loose key. I have examined ignition switch located on dash on top of tank.Bike is bone stock except saddle bags and Rhinehart exhaust. No breakers All fuses lots of them.Today stalled twice. On freeway 70 mph Motor stops clutch in killswitch off killswitch on starter button push motor runs throttle match speed now 55 release clutch go. Tonight I replaced both relays. I am optimistic
