06 Ultra, since new Idle/low speed problems. 17k. Stage 1, sert, ovals,2 sets of induction seals, Idle air motor,dinoed. After riding till hot, shut off let heat soak for 5/10 min. start and ride for 1 block. Bike will high idle for 10 sec. to 5 minutes. Turn off and restart. problem goes away.When it does that, you can smell raw gas for a few minutes. On occasion, will high idle while riding. Bike only high idles when cold for 3/5 sec. then idles at 950/1000.

 

I have the same problem if you get any answers please let me know.

 

sounds like you engine temp sensor......... with the harley 2 year warranty, you should be covered

 

Is it a possibility that I have a leaking injector? It smells of raw gas after a hot heat soak and will high idle for a few minutes. Can I take the air cleaner off and see inside the induction module to see if gas is present??? Or take it in to dealer and have injectors pulled and lay outside of the mfd and turn pump on to pressurize them. I,m desperate to get this thing fixed. thanks Dan

 

on an 06, its highly unlikely that an injector is leaking......... if that was the case, your plugs would be black and the bike's rpms would drop from a rich condition.

the temp sensor can make the puter think the bike is cold, therefore opening the IAC, rasing the idle and richening the mixture as well since an engine needs more fuel when cold. this would be why you smell gas

 

I,ve taken that bike back to the dealer so many times, it,s like the little boy crying wolf, they can,t seem to get it to act up on them. I know where the temp. switch is located. Is it pricey to replace on my own?? Or is it something I need to test before I replace it??? Thnaks

 

VERY EASY TO CHANGE!! literally just screws into the fronthead with a 3/4 deep socket just behind the horn. no real way to test it. but it is the cheapest to do on your own and the most likely cause for what you are reporting.

 

Thanks jmetro, I,ll pick one up at the dealers today and see how it preforms. Temperatures are to be in the 90s, so it will not take long to see how it reacts. Thanks again.

 

Well thad did not work! I changed it out and rode 4 different days at different temps. Whenever you shut it off and heat soak for 5/10 min. it will high idle as before. It will even do it while riding , it will forget to idle down. stays at 1500 to you shut it off and restart it. Help people. The dealer is still sctatching his whatever!!!!! thanks Dan
