1991 electraglide electrical problem
just bought a 1991 electraglide. dealer told me it had a new battery. cleaned it up today and played the radio for a couple hours with the accesory switch on. thought i'd go for a ride later. tried to start the bike and the starter just clicked. jumpstarted the bike and it started right up. voltmeter started to fall to about 10, and then went to 5. turned around and got home quick. no turnsignals working. put the battery on a tender and will leave it that way overnite. any ides of what's up? since this is my first harley, i must claim ignorance. my thoughts: the battery is fried. any help would be greatly appreciated!

RE: 1991 electraglide electrical problem
Once you get it started, check the output of the alternator....
You should be atleast 13 VDC @ 2000 RPM.....
If not, then you are going to have to start breaking it down....
Alt output test at the plug leads from the alternator... You will check for VAC at these leads, along with continuity and resistance....
If that checks out, then ....
Voltage Requlator/Rectifier (Single Phase system) test.....
Sorry, don't have the specs in front of me.....
MAKE SURE that the bike is fully charged when doing electrical tests, and be careful what you stick and where you stick it....
