RE: 77 Ironhead Rebuild
you are getting some great advice from all these guys. a few years ago I got my hands on a 77' Ironhead, and wanted to do a complete rebuild. I went from a basket case to a show winner, and never had any rebuild experince before joing this site. I got a new computer and as soon as i scan some of the before and after pics I will put them in here for you to see. I will do that in a bit.

RE: 77 Ironhead Rebuild
Hi,
I'm new to the forum but what I have seen is pretty good.
Your question regarding the jugs powder coat or not. The powder coat doesn't add much heat to the engine but the drawback is the price tag. I bought an old Iron head two years ago which was in pretty rough shape the previous owner dropped the bike a few times and cracked off some of the cooling fins being short of cash for a powder coat myself a local indy shop recomended using some John Deer "Blitz Black" paint it only costs about $8 and after a quick sand blasting the paint has not come off any where on the engine and it still looks good after 4000 miles.

Let the games begin...
While I was not successful in muzzeloader hunting Im praying for better results on the Sporty...
Here I have removed the tank, the seat and the exhaust.
Dang this bike is dirty...

RE: 77 Ironhead Rebuild
Thinks that concern me as I get a close look at the bike.
1. There is a leak dripping from the kick start shaft onto the exhaust pipe. Its not ad but I know that it will need to be repaired. How involved is that?
2. It looks like the shaft that the rear break pedal is attached to is a little bent. Id like to get this resolved too. Is that a big deal?
3. The oil tanks is REALLY close to the rear head. It actually touches the rear exhaust. I have to use a rubber mallet to bang it in place. What recomendations can y'all make for a new oil tank?
Her are pictures of them...
