    You would basically need to take a measurement between the posts of a 97 and later upright and compare it to that of your rear fender and see if there is enough room. If there is enough room, then you should be able to modify a setup to work. The old saying with Harley is "if it's made of metal, it can be made to fit." Without having a pre 97 on hand to work with and look at, it would be hard for me to determine exactly what needed to be modified. I would look closely at your bike and look over the many available online instruction sheets for uprights and detachable backrests and see if you could find a place to attach the mounting hardware or modify a plate to work.
