Mike,
we do a lot of riding in the mt. st. helens, columbia gorge areas.. one our favorite rides takes us up to cougar, there is a bar there that remembers db. cooper and then we head to out the south side of mt. st. helens, before we drop down to the columia river gorge thru a little town called carson, after that we cross at the bridge of the gods and end up in cascade locks.. we also enjoy heading up around mt. hood out of gresham/troutdale and coming out at hood river.. and out of troutdale you can go up to vista house and then multnoma falls, and after that work our way to hwy 14 and take the long way back.
a lot of the rides we take, we do take our time and stop every 20-30 miles to give my wife a break from her sportster, so for us to do 200 miles its about 7-8 hrs..
another good ride is out to the washington/oregon coasts, about 1 1/2-2 hrs away.. there is so much to see here, up north we have the mt.st. helens observatory that looks straight into the volcano, the columbia gorge to the east, we have the south side of st. helens.... there is so much here
many of these small towns have the mom and pop resturaunts, we have yet to eat at any, where we havent been treated good, one of our favorites is right here in town.. some of the small town start to shut down early (by 8pm most everything is closed).. if you have a town in mind let me know and i will see what kind of lodging they have.. vancouver is in the middle of everywhere, at the most 20 miles from here your out of town and in the country side and thats heading south, north, east more like 5-10 miles...
if there is anything else let me know
Deano
