Really sorry for the delayed response. I haven't logged on here in a while. The floor boards lowered the foot position slightly, but not much. I'm about 5'9" and found the mid-controls really uncomfortable at first. The floorboards allow me to move my feet forward quite a bit, without going to forward controls. There also are times I find myself moving one or both feet further back. Basically, they just allow a lot more range of motion both forward and back. I'm not wild about the looks but they really did improve the ride comfort a lot. The other thing that helped was the Saddlemen stepup seat.
