Ok here is proof, HD old fan cooler installed on '18 RKS...the cover install was not the big challenge, it was cutting the aluminum tabs closed enough w/o accidentally nicking the oil cooler main tubes...second challenge was press fitting the fan tabs/brackets into the oil cooler...not sure how I did it, I must have "stood on it" to get it to pop in place...lol
So all along while doing this mod, I was twisting and turning the old cooler and was afraid, I could have popped the oil lines, and what a mess that would have been as it defeats the purpose of I should have just bought the cooler and fan together but was trying to save some $$$.
I powered the fan manually via a switch, installed just under the right seat, and I monitor the engine and head temperature via my old PV2 from previous ’14 Limited, “not married to this bike” and still bone stock…ok warranty police, I’m innocent…lol
Does the fan really work well and worth it?... Imo, I think it did, as I saw differences of 20F to 30F cooler or less hot, than without one on stop and go traffic.
The question is will I recommend this same method to add the fan, it depends if you have average mechanically skills and have the patience, you can do it, if not, just make it easy and buy the full kit, only issue is some oil spill/mess and cost is twice as much. In my case fan was $150 and Dremel tool from Home Depot as about $30 or less, so all told, $180 plus my time vs. $350 for full kit, delta of $170 + or –

I don't know how to put pictures on this forum or any other. There were no mods to the cooler or cover when I put them on my RGS . I don't know why Harley didn't check things out saying they wont fit. I was wanting the fan assist and new cover anyway, I guess I had it in my head they were going work. I do have pix of the stock oil cooler beside fan assist and it is thicker not much but it is thicker.

I made a thread on this. I gave all the part numbers and everything to turn your oil cooler into the same fan assisted one Harley sells. posted it but didn't get any attention, which shocked me since so many people are always asking how to lower oil temps.
