Clutch safety switch failed
OK,,, got mine out. The plastic housing has a tiny crack in it. Water and grime built up in it. Drilled two small holes in it with a pin drill and got it flushed out with WD-40. Sealed back up with a soldering iron and re-installed. Waiting on dealer to open so I can figure out the next step. At least I can get it ridden to my dealer 100 miles away. Just called and canceled my reservations for the trip this weekend.

Harley knows this is a problem and they own the propriety for that switch pack. My 2017 is out of warranty, so I was out of luck! Paid $272.00 for a new switch pack, changed it out myself, about 30 minutes. Fixed my issue, since the bike would not start in gear! Also, bike does not stall when coming to a stop or slow speed turn! Both issues were clutch safety switch. Yea, all this electrical safety stuff to help protect us from ourselves!

MRFREEZE… can you explain how this can be done? It won’t help me any cause I already changed out with a new part, but I thought that the new “can bus” technology was all based on the “ribbon” wired system that spoke to the computer. If this happens again, as I have read that others are on their 2nd and 3rd, I would try your recommendation! Thanks in advance!

Best to properly diagnose and repair the bike rather than bypassing the switch. That switch is an important part of the bike’s operating system.
If the switch is not functioning properly the bike will start as long as the bike is in neutral. Unfortunately the system relies on the switch to make some decisions about the state of operation so fixing the bike is a much better idea.
