Hopefully you are able to correct it without finding a big mess inside the cam box.... Good Luck!

If you heard noise, something came apart. Might be a good idea to disassemble completely and measure all tolerances. If you see any scuffing or wear, depending on how bad, you may have metal in the motor... Might be a good idea to bring it to a professional.

Hope there is no damage.
You need to disassemble at this point. The noise you described demands it.

I’ll take cover off today and hopefully it was just the bottom bolt backing out and causing rubbing noise. Top bolt the cam could walk side to side and that would require taking it out and looking at the possible wear. It made the noise for less than five minutes in stop and go traffic before I pulled over, never more than 2500 rpm.
I’ll check oil drain plug and probable even change out the expensive Amsoil in it anyway.

Check the cam thrust clearance too. Misaligned sprockets will cause problems.

Visually checked, bolts still tight at inch pound screw up unfortunately.
Is the chain tensioner supposed to be rock solid and chain tight as a banjo string?
