Cold start lifter noise
My Wood Alpha lifters were noisy on cold start for about 15 or 20 seconds so they were replaced with a new set which were quiet at first and now noisy again a few thousand miles later. I called the fuel Moto and he said more than likely my adjustable push rods need to be turned a few more turns to tighten them up. He said they recommend four turns instead of the standard 2 1/2 anybody have any experience with this?

Depends on your lifters. I have the s/s lifters with fuel moto quickie push rods. I did a stage II woods 22xe last winter on my 2020RGL and did the 3.5 turns, and all ran well. I got about 3k miles into it and was on a trip from Texas to Gatlinburg this last fall. Starting up one morning, at our house on top of the mountain, where it was much cooler than Texas temps but I noticed a slight tapping on start up and was like wtf. It took a few minutes of warm up for it to subside. The first day as we were making our way from the house down the mountain, I was not comfortable using the engine brake as I normally would because that exasperated the tapping, so I was using front/rear brakes to control speed, which again I don't like doing coming down a mountain. By the time I got down to the bottom (5 minutes it was pretty much back to normal) During the course of the next week, I fired my bike up first and let it run a few minutes at idle to try and warm it up so I wouldn't be engine braking this thing and hearing that tapping.
Anyway, after I got back to Texas I called Fuel Moto and talked to their tech in the shop, my concern on these premium s/s lifter with such low miles, he asked me how much preload I put on them, I told them I wrote down 3.5 turns. He said minimum 4 turns. You could have a bad lifter he said, but I highly doubt it, I'd put 4 on them and check again, if you still have issues, call us back, we'll take care of you.
Well as much as I hated to pop those lifter tubes out, I pulled all four tubes and I wanted to start from squree one to make sure they were all dialed in exactly the same. First of all none backed off, but I did bring them all back to zero lash and then 4 turns. I don't notice anything on startup now.

I was a bit confused because:
The Wood Alpha lifters instructions spec 0.120 to 0.140" push rod extension.
The Fuel Moto EZ pushrods instructions spec 4 turns for Wood lifters. These pushrods are 24tpi or 0.042"per 1 turn. So 4 turns X .042" = 0.168". Is 0.168 getting too close to the max lifter travel which is ~0.200"?
