Default Questions about Accidents and Damages

Well It finally happened to me. I was rear-ended on Wednesday evening. I didn't drop the bike but I give that credit to a Great Co-Pilot and my adjustable backrest. I also give credit to my backrest for my lower back being hurt too.

What I am wondering is how much damage does most Insurance companies think is enough to total a bike? Not that I want it totaled but I am just wondering while I wait for the adjuster to look at it.

BTW her insurance company is Progressive.

Thanks for the help .

I think they use the same guide lines as auto insurance around 80% of it book value. All I know is in March when I had my accident with my 07 Ultra had $9,500 worth of damage and it was not totaled.

Yep, % of book value for the bike used. If the bike was not dropped, and the frame is okay, I doubt you have enough damage for it, but take it to your preferred repair shop and find out.

Glad you're okay dude. Go to the doctor and document your injury in case it come back to haunt you.

Had over $5200.00 damage for a laydown. Adjuster said if there was any frame damage it was an automatic total.

Bent frame will definitely mean a total. My son wadded up his CBRRRR and that was the determining factor.

In alot of cases its up to the appraiser veiwing the bike. They do operate on percentage of used value vs. repair. They also have the ability to total a vehicle based on salvage value. You will have to ask because usualy theyre too lazy to look it up.Harleys carry very high salvage value {around 40 percent of book}.By using salvage value an appraiser can justifiably total a Harley at roughly 60 percent of book.
