Im looking for a ballpark amount of paint I'd need for a few scenarios. I'm going with an inner fairing, stretch bags, and CVO rear fender for my '14 SGS in sand camo this winter, and have a few different ways to do it. I guess I need to know how much paint I'd need to 1) buy all primer parts and have them painted, or 2) buy matched inner fairing and bags, primer CVO fender (fender not available in sand camo from moco) and only paint the fender. The downside to any paint work is for the sand camo, I need a base and color, so 1 quart of each being the least I can buy is $250, plus the work to have a shop do it. The other thing to keep in mind is the dealer runs a 15 or 20% off painted parts sale in the winter, so the cost would end up about the same price if I bought what I could painted instead of primed, but then I still need to buy paint and pay a shop to do the CVO fender anyway, and hope it matches a factory paint job perfectly. Also, I really want an inner fairing without mirrors, but if I buy already color matched, I can only get it with the mirror holes, so that's something for me to keep in mind.

I guess it all hinges on if I'll need $700 worth of paint to paint all the primer parts, because I'm sure to have them all painted it'll be another $750-$1000 to have a shop do the work.

I hear that the denim fades fairly quickly in the sun and you won't notice it until you start adding newly painted parts. You might wind up with factory matched parts or even new paint that doesn't match your original stuff.

Try taking the dash off of the fuel tank and see how much your paint has already faded.

I'll have to take a look, I'm pulling the dash off as its getting powder coated with other parts this winter, so I'll see how bad it faded then. As long as the new parts will "catch up" as far as fading in a year or two, that's fine. I've only got 3k miles on my bike and its stored inside all the time anyway, so I can't imagine it's faded all that much.

That new of a bike stored inside would probably be ok I'd imagine.
The moco bags are ok but they're a little short for my taste. Also, check out the fender TopShop makes called the Sick Rick. A little twist on the cvo style. A place called factorymatch.com is one of TopShop's dealers and will ship you the parts painted and ready to bolt on. I'm getting my TopShop Viper Bags from him.

No fading here, it's in direct sun A LOT.
FYI, the top coat of sand camo denim is Morrocan Gold.
(I have the hd factory paint here at the house.)

I actually got a hold of top shop last March about their 4.5" drop bags and minister rear fender. I was quoted $2500 for parts, $800 for paint minus pinstripes. I may go with them, I like the bags much better than moco's. I contacted top shop today so we'll see if their prices are still the same and go from there.
