Open and Closed Recalls
Hi All,
I just purchased a new 2015 FLHTKL and after I bought it home, I immediately checked the recalls. There were two, #1 NTHSA Recall Campaign Number: 15V-216 which is open and #2 NTHSA Recall Campaign Number: 15V-427 which is closed.
My question is, do I need to address the open recall immediately or can it wait until the 1K service? Since I live in Northern Indiana, I don't think I'll be riding for a few more months. Thanks in advance.

It is a violation of federal law to deliver a new vehicle with an open safety recall. All of these things were spelled out clearly in all NHTSA , Harley Davidson Motor Corp. , and Dealer recall notifications. I don't know what is so hard to understand. My dealer didn't do the open recall on my new 2015 Roadglide Special clutch but did the saddlebag recall. The clutch failed luckily nothing bad happened.

Please be reminded that under 49 U.S.C. § 30112(a)(3), it is illegal for a manufacturer, to sell, offer for sale, import, or introduce or deliver into interstate commerce, a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment that contains a safety defect once the manufacturer has notified NHTSA about that safety defect. This prohibition does not apply once the motor vehicle or motor vehicle equipment has been remedied according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Before you get upset remember the database does not refresh quickly, the recall may have been completed on the HD side but not on the reported side. call service with the vin and ask to check for open recalls. If they did not do it before delivery, shame on them because as stated before you can't deliver a new vehicle with a open recall. Mike
