Default Trying to remove stock AC....help please

Got a little ahead of myself...Done a few AC swaps over the years and didn't think this 2016 RK would be any different. Don't have the factory manual handy...Oops. I know...."buy one"...I will...

But I'm sitting in my garage wrench in hand on my day off and I'm stuck.

Trying to install my S&S teardrop.

Any one have link to a good how to video or info on how to get these new Rushmore AC's off? Can't see what the backing plate is attached too or fastened with.

Help.

Thanks.

Use your. Fingernails. And pull the. "103" badge off. It is installed with Velcro. The bolts are behind it.

You need to slide off the (2 into 1) rubber hoses that plug into the back of the stock filter and the bolts are under them.

Cool.

Ok.

I've got the cover, filter, and breather hoses off. I can see the breather bolts but need deeper sockets to reach them. Any idea what size these are? Are these bolts the only culprit holding the backing plate on?

No worries. You got me on the path pulling the breather tubing out of the way so I could find the bolts. The new model AC bolts are very recessed so I needed to pick up a deep socket to reach them. After that it was pretty standard. The S&S looks good on there. I hate to replace such a nice stock unit since it is already a high flow pretty much, but mine just NEEDED the teardrop. I ran a DK external breather kit too. I'll do a thread tomorrow with pics. Thanks again for the help.

Looking forward to the pics. Did you need to pull the tank to get to the 2 screws that hold the support induction module bracket (that gets discarded)?

Well interesting question. The S&S video and instructions said nothing about this module and in the video it was still on the bike. The AC fit perfectly with it on. Mounts right up the intake with the S&S provided adapter plate. All the stock AC contains that I swapped is the housing, filter, and breather configuration. Not sure how swapping any of those would need the removal of the induction module. The support bracket was not in the way of the S&S AC. Is there something I'm missing? Breather bolts were same length as stock too so I'm assuming they are searing to the right depth with the bracket on vs off.

I was going to install the HD Screaming Eagle Stage 1 AC Kit until I read the directions which mentioned removing that along with a mandatory ECM reprogram.

Hmmm, parts guy didn't mention that so I called the Service Desk. That guy said the ECM flash wouldn't work and I need the tuner....hmmmm again. So I called another dealer who said the same thing.

At that point I reattached the stock filter back on, packaged up the kit, put it on the shelf and went and had a beer!

Maybe the S&S fits differently and there's no need to remove that support bracket. If it wasn't in the directions or video I'm sure you're good. It would sure be a heck of a lot easier to leave it!
