water pump & thermostat
how many people are having failures ? waterpumps ? thermostats ? HD should give everyone an extended five year warrenty on their twin cooled bikes if failure rates are high enough. a $400 waterpump and a $75 thermostat is outragous for cheap Chinese substandard parts.

i'm just curious as to how many people have had a failure of either part too. seems i'm reading about these failures quite a bit. my money is on those parts are made overseas. i wonder what would happen if you removed the thermostat and left it out of the loop, bypassing it all together. seems to me this would be much easier on the pump as it would not be pushing on a closed thermostat. i realize they is a slight bypass on the thermostat, but it has to be hard on the pump. just thinking out loud.

61,000 miles and no problems with the thermostat or water pump. One time when I went to check the coolant level the overflow tank was empty. That happened at 18,000 miles/9 months old. I never saw any leak and the dealer was unable to find any leak. The filler neck was replaced under the product program (not a true recall) and the system was refilled. No more coolant loss. At 48,000 miles/2 years old coolant was changed as per the maintenance schedule. No coolant loss other than that one time the remains unexplained.
