Default Myth that aftermarket partsvoids warranties

I see lots of posts where people are worried about their warranty. Harley Davidson actually promotes customization, that is one of the hallmarks of the company.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Act, aftermarket equipment which improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer’s original warranty.
A dealer must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before he can deny warranty coverage on that basis. To challenge a false claim, ask the dealer to put it in writing. If they refuse to give you a written statement, this is a violation of Federal law. The Federal Trade Commission , which administers the Magnuson-Moss Act, monitors compliance with warranty issues. Direct your dealer complaints to the FTC at (202) 326-3128.

Hope this helps and clarify you question about customizing your ride using aftermarket parts.

See Wikipedia for a synopsis of how the Moss-Magnuson Act works in your favor: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus...s_Warranty_Act

What are you going to do if HD says your warranty is void??? Take them to court using the MM act as your defense? Good luck lasting longer in the legal process than a multi-billion dollar company.

Go ahead and put an aftermarket set of rocker arms, pushrods or cams in your under warranty bike and if your non HD parts fails and you destroy the engine the dealer is not required to cover your loss. So yeah the MOCO can say any modification to the bike using anything other than HD certified parts will void your warranty. The warranty is for OEM equipment not aftermarket. Aftermarket parts do have warranties but they are not under the MOCO's warranty program and thats the difference. If you perform any maintenance and you didn't do it right the MOCO is not responsible for incompetence if something breaks we the owners are. If your saying you can do anything to your bike after you buy it and it be covered under the factory warranty you are mistaken.

My understanding of the stance Harley Davidson and the EPA have taken has nothing to do with performance, broken parts etc. The dealer or company won’t and if you do something that will alter the emissions of your 2017 bike they will not work on it whether under warranty or not. They don’t care what broke or what caused it, screw with the emissions system and you are on your own as far as for engine/components. Of course if something like your speedometer stops working that will be covered. Harley has the EPA behind them, they're not worried about going to court over it.

Sounds like Op bought a new bike and wants to replace parts and keep warranty. Guys tend to forget that exhaust, air cleaner and tune is emissions and cant and will not be warrantied if replace or altered with especially now the EPA is involved. People misunderstand the MM Act all the time
