I was educated about the HD shock setup as well. The right side is basically a neutral shock and the preload is adjusted on the left side. Shitty design and rides like garbage, but that's how it works.

agree !!! the so called premium shocks rode worse than the worst air shocks I have ever been on and WHY they were yanked off in favor of an air ride
I switched my 2014 RK air shocks for SGS 12" Premium Rides and it was a world of difference. Has anyone tried the adjustable shock on both sides? Also I thought I read somewhere the spring shock dampened on the extend (after compression)
The real issue is travel. The 12's only have like one to two inches of travel. The 13's have another inch but raises the rear end so it changes the look. I tried 13's with a one inch lowering kit but it was too squirrelly at high speed. I compromised handling for ride quality. I have since put my 12 premium shocks back on and lowered my tire pressure to the recommended 36/40 and that has smoothed it out a little better.
I increased the ride quality of the premium adjustable shocks by ignoring the Harley suggested settings. After some experimentation I found that a better ride can be achieved by setting the left shock considerably higher than what Harley recommends.
