Default Dyno Tune a dying thing or truly needed?

i know this will be a " depending on whose opinion" and " depends on the tuner" debate , i get mixed messages .

some say the tuners and fuel park maps and downloads are so good now there almost isn't such a thing as a dyno tune any longer

some like that feel good moment to just get a dyno sheet and say its dyno tuned .

heres my scenario
2014 street glide special
HD hi flow air filter
vance and hines eliminator slip ons
factory head pipe with the cat still
screaming eagle super tuner pro

I'm about to put a vance and hines X pipe on next week

* one guy says just bolt pipe on as the map in it will not change
* vance and hines also says should be no issue - bolt it on and go

* the dealer who dynoed it originally wants $500.00 to " re dyno " and swears bike won't run right

in hindsight i wish i had of went with Fuel Moto as i read the customer service is amazing

the simple math tells me theres thousand and thousands of bikes running stage 1 set ups with standard maps/dowlnoads that work just great and have never saw a dyno .

im not looking for a black and white answer as i know opinions vary

Your Pro Super Tuner is very versatile, you can do self tune sessions with it for better performance yourself. Download and read the full manual, get the cables and do your own tuning sessions, then the bike will be tuned to how YOU ride and will give you great real world performance.

dyno with someone that knows what they are doing wins every time. The auto tuning only modifies that parameters in the ranges that it was programmed for. You can get them running well without the dyno but doubtful if it will be close to optimal. I wouldn't do nothing when changing out the header beit dyno or tuning it yourself with the tuner.

If you're not changing cams, doing head work, increasing bore size, etc., IMO, it's a waste of money. Stage 1 with canned tunes will get you close enough. The idea for a Stage 1 is to get the bike running at an decent ARF and allow the engine to breathe.

Your SEPST can smart tune the VE's changes from the V&H X-pipe....
I was able to adjust changes I made to my 2013 Ultra with the SE Pro Tuner even after I added De-Catted Headpipe & SE-255 Cams as the Pro Tuner had a Stage 2 Map...

If using a good tuner, it can never hurt.. really depends on how much your are trying for.

No two bikes are the same so why go with just a canned map.

A dealer tune will always cost much more than an indy tune, plus you get an experienced tuner with the indy. The dealer throws the new guy on the job with the instruction manual almost every time.
