OK here's what's happened. trying to remove inner lower fairing to access radiators and the screws just spin.. Tried aliitle heat but i'm afraid of damaged to fairing. Any ideas on how to remove these things ? I can see the inserts just spinning in the lowers. These thing are tight. If i drill i may damage the fairing too.

 

I'm curious about this too. I need to remove my lower fairings too. I have a 2018 Ultra. There's nothing on the web explaining the removal of twin cooled lower fairings

 

As per service manual there is the upper clamp with two flange nuts and the lower clamp with one flange nut, would you not just need to get a grip on the nut? Maybe I don't understand

 

there's two torque screws on the inside right above the clamp that hooks to the bottom of the engine guard. As I'm trying to take them out, the metal piece that they screw into spins. Another wonderful idea from the motor company.

 

 

Yep, them are the screws If anyone has any ideas on how to remove these things ,speak up. What do the techs at the dealer do with this ? Certainly not replacing the lowers every time they destroy one taking it apart. Really a stupid design here. Why not have a bolt with a regular nut on this setup ?

 

Truer words never spoken! I mustve cursed Harley many times yesterday for that RIDICULOUS design. I'll let you know what they do after I take the bike in. Total pain in the ***

 

That looks like a chicago nut. put an easy out in it and hold that.

 

There is a torx bolt in there that can't be removed.

 

I think what he meant was to put an easy-out in the back of the nut. The easy-out is left hand threaded, so when you start trying to loosen the torx bolt the easy-out will dig in and hold the nut still maybe... not a bad idea, if you can get it to bite before it hits the torx bolt.
