If you are using a mac, I can't help you.
On a PC, you do not need to "open" the file, just "Save" it, or copy it. to the thumb drive.
Edit: on a PC, double-clicking the file will "open" it with an app: you don'y want to do that.
Single click it to select it. Or single click and hold it (i.e., "grab it") and drag it to your thumb drive.
Again, you DON'T OPEN the file.
If you don't know how to copy files from your computer to a flash drive, you need to take some computer classes.
NO HE DOESN'T!!! He just needs someone to show him how to do it. Instead of a wiseazz comment like that, it would have been a lot more helpful if you had listed out the instructions for him. It wouldn't take long and he would have been very grateful to you for helping him. Not all folks here are tech savvy. WE are here to help each other, not to criticize the ones that don't have expertise in a certain area.
Now go climb back under your rock. We'll pull you out if we need anything else from you!

Not sure if Larry is asking this but I'm gonna take a shot. Couple of weeks ago I created a route on RP and was gonna load it into a Garmin Zumo, I was taking the truck and wanted to follow a specific route. Created the route, no problems, plenty of waypoints but when I went to load it into the Garmin there was no way to load it (import it?) onto the unit. The old Planner used to have an option to load it as a GPX file either onto a FlashDrive or an external GPS unit, I couldn't find that option on the new "and improved" RP. I wound up saving the route to my computer, removing the memory card from the Garmin and inserting it into my PC and then copying it onto the memory card. I then had to find the right folder that held the GPX files on the card and drag and drop it into that folder. All worked well but an awful lot of work. Not sure if that's what Larry meant by "importing" the file...

IUOE Rob - you are losing me a little. Are you saying you could not upload the file to your Garmin or, you could not export your file to a flash drive so you could load it to your Garmin.
The new RP has an export. Open your saved route - hit preview or edit. On the bottom right, you sill see download to GPX
