cleaning under side covers
#11
I am an electrician in an industrial manufacturing plant. I seen Simple Green used on electrical components like Photo eyes, reflectors and prox switches Etc. Simple Green totally ruins them. Photo eye lenses and reflectors end up with a permanent Haze and they start deteriorating. My wife used to use Simple Green around the house and stuff but we do not use it at all for anything now. I honestly cringe a little bit because I read on the forums people cleaning their bikes and stuff with it.

Generally speaking...I just hit a few more puddles at about 35mph. I live in western Oregon...if I don't ride in the rain...I don't ride much. I'll wash the bike a few times over the summer. But it rains often enough there is no point the rest of the year. I have a soft and long bristle toilet brush that works good on the cylinder fins and other nooks and crannies. But I'd consider it a waste of time to clean behind the saddlebags or side panels.

Simple Green can deteriorate plastic some rubbers and paint for that matter.

Good advise. I think the simple green purple is better suited for the task. The green simple green can damage aluminum. Check out the simple green website for more info.
Personally as mentioned I use car wash soap in a foam gun.

I agree, Simple Green will cause aluminum to corrode and possibly other metal surfaces too....the biggest problem is not washing it all off. A good car wash soap (I use the Turtle Wax brand) mixed with water and a rag or sponge works great. Rinse with water (do NOT use a pressure washer EVER!) and you should be good to go. Dry off what you can with a soft clean towel and go for a ride so the wind will dry off the rest. EASY!

I use Simple Green Extreme

It's not cheap, but I've been using it, when needed on my Harleys for years with no ill effects.....
