so my buddy did an oil change on his 1997 1200 he put a k&n oil filter 171 which doesnt have the drainage valve on it he rode it roughly 3500 miles and when i ran into him he had loud knocking noise, originally thought it might have been the primary chain checked it and it was ok. so we did another oil change thats when i saw he had the wrong filter on it question is could that filter have caused bottom end damage? hes still riding it with that noise says he hasnt noticed any mechanical issues on the road any thoughts?

 

How did you come to the conclusion that it was the wrong oil filter?

There is no anti drainback valve on the correct filter (63805-80A)...
