Default 1000 mile -> Royal Purple

Hey guys,

I'm coming up on my 1000 mile break in and I'm going to do the service myself. I haven't bought the manual for my bike yet, so I don't know how much of each oil I need?

2007 Dyna Street Bob
Switching to Synthetic Royal Purple

Can someone tell me what oil I need and how much?

Just getting ready to head to the speed shop and forgot to look this up!

Thanks!

I'd get 4quarts, I'm pretty sure you only need 3 for the bike and one extra.Be sure and get the RP that is made for air cooled motorcycle engines...

Well, if it was me I'd use RP MaxCyle 20-50 for the crank, HDformula+ for the primary and Bel-Ray for the tranny. I guess you could use the RP MaxCycle for the Primary, but don't put it in the tranny. Use a "Gear" oil.

You will need a new filter and 2.5 quarts of oil for the engine (RP cycle 20w50), 1qt of 20w50 or HD primary oil for the primary, 1 quart of RP 75w90 GL5 synthetic gear oil for the trans.

My 06TC88 takes 2.5 quarts for an oil change and 3.0 quarts for a completely dry engine. Yours should be the same but check your owners manual as this information should be in there.

BUt use gear oil in the trans for sure.

You can use the 20w50as long as it's motorcycle approved for a wet clutch(should say JASO on the bottle) ...I use Redline MTL or HD syn3 in the primary because they both have no moly to effect the clutch plates. The syn3 is fine and easy to get and for sure won't cause your clutch to slip.

Max-Cycle is specifically formulated to significantly improve motorcycle, ATV and snowmobile engine (and transmission) performance. It's recommended for use in both air-cooled and liquid-cooled 4-cycle engines and it's compatible with wet-clutch transmissions.

Then it should be fine in the primary. But still use the 75w90 gear oil in the trans.
