YES! That is exactly what I was told as well.

But triple check it with a motorhead here.

Someone will check in here in no time my friend.

Yes, with no harm done. Lots of info about what is good for each hole. It will be all up to you. I started out that way 20W50 in all three but changed my formulas as time went by and research gave me a better insight. good luck.

I use Schaeffer's 20-50w synthetic oil in the crankcase and primary but I still use Redline Heavy Duty in the tranny. That's just my preference. But yes you can most certainly use the 20-50w of your choice in all three holes.

I am getting ready to either take mine to the shop or do it myself. Leaning towards doing it myself after looking through the service manual that the previous owner gave me. Doesn't seem that difficult. And knowing that I can't screw it up with using the same oil in each is a load off my mind. Still going to look through the manual and see what it suggests.
Thanks for the post!

Ah, oils! There is so much contradicting 'advice' out there that we are each on our own when it comes to deciding what to use. Our bikes have three oil reservoirs and the MoCo recommends a different oil in each. In over 40 years of Harley ownership I have never bothered to try the same oil in all three holes......

this post is a little late but if you take it to a dealer it will end up with syn-3 in all three holes.each bike is different and every rider is different,to each his own.any motorcycle synthetic 20-50 in the crank case will work good.the primary every body has an opinion, some say on the newer bikes harleys formula+ is the ticket.when i had my 98 ultra it hated formula + in the primary . the trans it will be hard to beat red line heavy shock proof.in my 98 and now in my 08 ultra i use mobile 1 v-twin 20-50 in the motor, mobile 1 4t racing 10-40 in the primary and red line in the trans.the main reason i went with mobile 1 products is,"availability" and price.i travel alot and i know any parts store or wallmart carries mobil1 products.redline is a specialty oill and is hard to find on a retail level, but i love it in the trans.hopefully i will never lose any out on the road.

Choose a good quality nationally branded synthetic oil that meets the specification and be done with it. There's not really a magic formula that will make or break your components. Note there's some junk oil out there. That why I say good quality nationally branded oil that "meets" the specification.
