Not Impressed with Mobil 1 VTwin
I am just finishing up my first Mobil 1 oil change (3000 miles) I am not overly impressed with it. I have used HD dino oil (best so far), Syn 3 (was okay), Valvoline Synthetic (not bad), and now Mobil 1 (least favorite so far). It makes the top end very noisy, and the bike appears to run hotter. By the way it's a '15 limited, with 15,000 miles on it.
Going to try something else most likely either Schaffer's, or Spectro. Also thinking it will be a semi-synthetic. Guess I will keep on trying until I fine something I like.

Just for we understand your criteria for judging motor oil is, "makes your top end noising and the the bike appears to run hotter".
My main criteria when buying motor oil is the cost and engine protection.
The Cost factor, I buy Mobil 1 synthetic 15-50 weight in the 5 quart jugs for around $25, that's $5 a quart. I buy the black K and N oils filters on line for about $10 apiece. Total cost for just the engine oil change about $30.
The Engine Protection factor, since I keep the cost of oil changes down to $30, I change the oil and filter every 3000 miles.
As far as valve train noise, that's the nature of the beast. Don't worry about it if you got fresh clean oil in it. I just turn the stereo up.

Your entitled to your opinion but I've ran Mobile 1 in several of my bikes for years and had Zero issues. Everything from Harley's to a 200HP+ hayabusa and IMO bang for the buck you can't beat it.

Mobil 1 is probably one of the best lubricating oils out there, but....
I've tried a LOT of oils, you see top end noise is a peev of mine By far the worst I've ever tried, as far as noise, is M1. By far the best is Spectro 25-60 dino oil. In general, dino oils are always quieter, it's just their nature.
As always, every bike is different... experimenting a little can pay big rewards.

The 20w50 motorcycle oil is API SJ rated for 2001 and older vehicles!
Why?
Because they chose to "idiot proof" their motorcycle oil by leaving out friction modifiers that would kill a wet clutch.
Amsoil did this too...they "recommended" one oil in all three holes, but finally caved to user demand and made hole specific oils and crossed their fingers that users were smart enough to get the right oil in the right hole...but still Amsoil is SL rated for 2004 and older vehicles! Which probably means it won't hurt if you get the wrong oil in the wrong hole.
It is ok to use API SN (the latest, most advance rating) oils in the engine of your Harley. I LOVE Mobile1 15w50 oil in my Harley...runs so smooth! Just don't put it in the clutch!
