Default Strange question regarding primary oil

So...this is not my first bike, nor my first Harley. But it is my first in a long time...stopped riding when my youngest was 3...he is now 16.

I bought a 2007 FLHTCU with 30k miles and am loving it. Today, after doing a bunch of reading in here, I decided to change the primary oil and wanted to see what difference I could tell by using B&M Trick Shift. Well...it made quite a difference. But, this is where my question lies....

Will changing primary fluid (the oil in it was DIRTY!!!!) change the way the bike idles? Because that is what it seemed to do. Yes, shifting was better...smoother...didn’t CLUNK quite as bad...it seemed to run quieter...but it also seemed to change the idle speed.

I may be ignorant and completely wrong, but I am very curious and always wanting to learn.

Please educate me.

Probably not. The only way I can see it affect is if the fluid inside was so old it turned viscous, and put a load on the engine, then when you changed it to a much lighter fluid, the idle changed.

You might have just noticed it because you have been riding it a lot, and I am sure you probably left a few carbon trails and cobwebs behind you.
