I bought my 2017 Sportster Superlow 1200T in August of last year. The oil temp consistently ran 250 degrees or better, and the oil tank next to my leg wasn't comfortable. Since it gets hot--regularly over 110 degrees--in the summers in Las Vegas, I want to install an oil cooler before the teeth of the summer bite my bike and me again. After researching the various options, I am leaning toward installing a Jagg 750-1000 oil cooler. I like that it has a built-in thermostat, and the quality of the materials just looks better to me than the HD one.

I will appreciate hearing any feedback from any one that has installed a Jagg oil cooler on a late model 1200 Sportster. Has it helped with the oil tank heat? Does it leak? How was the installation? Any thing else?

well, the hd unit is the same, at least mine is. i have the separate by-pass block and i removed it and run just the cooler and it is in the return line. does it help, sure. where i live, i do not have the heat like you but i do have humidity which is equally bad. i really have to ride it hard to get temps above 180 >200*. if you do town riding, you will want a cooling fan model

 

My research revealed that getting the torque right (lot too loose or not top tight) is critical to a leak-free installation. But, Jagg doesn't publish an specification in its instructions. Does anyone have torque specifications for the bolts and filter adapter for the Jagg?

HOW MUCH TORQUE DO I NEED TO PLACE ON THE CINCH NUT OF THE OIL FILTER ADAPTER?

Since you are compressing a rubber o-ring when you tighten the oil filter adapter to the oil filter housing, it is not necessary to specify a torque value;
however, we have determined this value at circa 144in-lbs or 12ft-lbs or 16.2Nm.

I wish I could have done a before and after. But it was gonna be tuff since my 15 rgs already came with an oil cooler.. I am sure having extra rows will help.

 

I was seeing the exact same temps on my '17, too hot IMO. I went with the Jaggs 750-1200 slimline cooler, and the 4550 adapter.

While I was seeing oil temps pushing or right at 250* at Interstate speeds in hot weather, I now rarely see oil temps at 220*. Can't speak for the tank as I have never had a problem with heat radiating from it on my leg.

I have had no problems with leaks, I will say you will need to check and possibly retighten the extension screw every time you change the filter as it wants to loosen up some when you unscrew the filter. Install was pretty simple, only problem I had was the socket head screws that tighten up the cooler clamps to the frame tube were too short. A quick trip to Lowes solved that problem.
