Gear Oil in the Trans is Important
I've got more than 30,000 miles on my Street Glide. I've found that any decent Synthetic Oil handles the engine. You want Syn because it doesn't break down in high heat and you want that in H-D's air cooled engines, IMHO even in the ones with water cooled heads (Milwaukee 8). Amsoil, Mobile One. You can run almost anything you want in the primary, I've found always good with the same oil as the engine in the primary.
I started my bike on Amsoil. It always made my Deuce shift well. At 10k the trans shifted smooth as butter. The shop I was using had its own oil (Dynacycle) and he insisted on using it. With Dynacycle, a all three holes oil in the trans, Neutral was hard to find. At times I needed to shut off the bike to take myhand off the clutch. By 20,000 miles I had to make sure I spun the engine in most of the gears while slowing or 1st would be hard to get back to. I thought the bike was getting older and I was going to need to go for a trans. Then I started doing my own oil, or having a friend do it. Both of us used 75-90W Amsoil gear oil in the trans. With 25K - 30K+ on the bike, the trans again shifts like butter. The moral of the story is mileage has taught me a lesson you can't learn any other way. Run 75-90 .. preferrably Amsoil or similar quaility in the trans. While Syn3 for the motor is probably fine, run Syn3 in all holes is bs.

My 2002, and now my 2019, electraglides get synthetic 20w-50. My 2019 is still air/oil cooled.

I use Mobile one V-twin in the engine and primary. Mobile one Gear oil in the transmission.
nothing magical happens as a result.
2013 Heritage softail classic.
and for some of you, yes it’s almost winter. For us down south, it’s now riding season. Almost time to put the jet skis away for the season lol
