93 sportster Oil Change on rebuild
i have a bone dry 93 sportster engine in a box. have it all back together but i am new to the external oil tank concept.
Questions: 1. anyone have a better diagram on the oil lines routing to the oil tank. I have one line that comes off of the case cover(down near the final drive) and 2 lines that come from the pump.
Question 2: Do i need to prime the case first before starting because it is currently empty now? (i used assembly lube on everything so i assume no)
question 3unrelated) I have a breather line that comes from the center of the crank case... where does this get routed to. Thx

I sent you a PM for question #1, question #2 if you used assembly lube in good fashion on everything you should be ok, question #3 I believe that the breather line of which you speak can be routed to a crankcase breather filter that gets mounted on one of your rocker cover bolts (that's where my bud's 1997 sporty got routed to).

I would use as a first fill a 15w40 HDEO oil like rotella and rotate the engine on the starter several times to get everything oiled before starting. Then drain this oil at about 50 miles and go to 20w50. The 15w40 will pump faster than a 20w50 on the initial start.
