I work in a place where the average age is mid 50`s (I`m 60).

Mostly we just growl "Hey Man", or worse......

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread,

OP: what type lube are you using in the primary?

The proper amount of movement of the clutch rod at the clutch pack should be between .070 to .080 If you have that then your clutch disengagement travel is proper.

Oil height is to spec, and will revisit primary chain tension. The extra plate kit was/is available as a direct replacement for the stock plates and included the thicker spring. When it was new it behaved same as stock except harder to pull and no slip.

More to the story - A year or so ago.... pulling into a parking garage, the clutch would not disengage. I went up several ramps pulling the clutch lever and finally it disengaged so I could park it. Hotel was 30 miles from the trailer so rode out to the trailer with clutch slipping under load. Loaded up came home and purchased a new clutch kit and installed. 1 month later I broke the tranny case around the main bearing bore. Found all mainshaft bearings bad, Final gear bearings had slid all the way to inboard side thru bore. basically trashed the tranny case, mainshaft and final drive gear set.

Harley did not sell a replacement trans complete anly parts and my parts list were most so the total cost all new parts to build was several $k. A 6 speed was out of scope so I purchased a low mile replacement 5 spd from a total.

After installing the tranny I found my wheels were scissored. Had 60 thou runout on the pinion side. During disassembly I rotated the assembly through and noticed the primary chain was getting very tight and getting very loose. (Runout)

Motor was rebuilt over 5k mile ago, everything is quiet and running good. But neutral is hard to get when running. I am using the same clutch hub or everything inside the primary came off the trashed tranny.
