Default pulleys question...

hey guys...call me getting older...whatever you want...lol...i have a revtech 6 speed for a chopper im building...i decided if possible id run a rear pulley because the trans comes with one already but in rear id have to run a 1 1/8 pulley...does that mean front trans has to be the same?..the pulley on the trans is 1 7/8 width...having no experience with belts wanted to ask...didnt know if it was normal for drift in front....if i have to change front im just gonna run a chain...

I installed a 68T International rear pulley on my Fat Bob, it is designed for the 1 1/8" belt. At first I just left my stock 1" belt on and had no problems except seeing that 1/8" gap on the inboard side of the pulley. Kinda drove me crazy so next mod opportunity, I swapped in a 1 1/8" belt. Only been running the new belt for a couple hundred miles so far but have not noticed any issues.

The front pulley on the big twins trans is much wider than the belt. I have run both 1 1/2" and 1 1/8" belts on mine, all Harley belts having the same tooth profile. So you can run whatever width belt you fancy, including the later 1". The rear pulley guides the belt and centres it on the front pulley, just use the correct rear pulley for the width of belt you want. The quality and strength of belts has improved over the years, hence they have been made narrower, despite the performance of recent bikes being significantly higher than when the belts were first introduced, on shovels.

Hey Paul!

Just throwin it out there to be involved in the forums. I did loose the inner side on my 08 SG. The ring welds failed and the ring spun around on the shaft of the wheel😳 Min damage to belt. Just as info...
