Default Gear set swaps 5 to 6 speed

Hi all,

Will a 2006 6 speed gear set fit into an earlier 5 speed case??..or must I use a 6 speed case.
Was looking to change over to a 6 speed if I could use my existing case on my Dyna.
Thx
Jim

Nope it won't fit, and the 06 case won't in your existing bike. If you're jonesing for a 6 speed you're going to have to go aftermarket. IMO the 5 speed gets the job done, see folks crabbing about wanting to shift another gear because they think they need lower rpm's. I've been quite happy with the 5 speed in my 06 Ultra, doesn't bother me it carries 400 - 500 rpm more.

There is an overdrive H-D kit that will fit your trans case, visit the H-D website and go to the Shop tab. Baker make both overdrive and direct drive 6-speeds and there are no doubt others. I have a DD6 in my Evo.

There is a six speed gear set that will work in your '05 trans case; PN 33101-03A; there may be others but this set is the one I would choose for the conversion. However, the trans case must be modified by drilling the fork shaft hole to accommodate the SE6 larger fork shaft; the shift shaft sleeve must be replaced and a new clutch side cover/clutch pushrod kit purchased separately. Only down side, if there is one, is that the five speed gear set cannot be reinstalled without bushing the O/S fork shaft hole for the smaller five speed fork shaft. The gear set goes for about $1700 from an online discount dealer and the side cover kit runs about $240. I have seen the gear sets go for about $1200 on Ebay. Researched the same conversion for my '02 FLHT a few months back; missed a gear set on Ebay that went for less than $1200; I hesitated and missed out but looking for another one.
