Default Stiff clutch

Just bought my wife a 2002 Heritage.
I read here somewhere that pre-2006 they didn't have an easy pull, but I'm no wimp and it seems to be pretty stiff. Only 15,000 miles on the bike but it has sat around for a few years. Do you think it might just need some lube in the cable, replace the cable? Or is it known that the clutch on this year of bikes are harder to pull?

Properly adjust and check things over. If all is right and still tough pull, consider getting the Muller Power Clutch ramps.

Going from 2002 OEM ramps, that are 21°, you can use the 2006 and up ramps that are 18°. They require less force to pull the clutch in. Considerable less expensive than Muller ramps.

outer ramp 25605-00A
inner ramp 25604-00A

Interesting, I'll definitely try that on my '98...however it looks like the ramp changes happened in 2000, not 2006 so the OP should already have the newer style on his 2002.

Maybe the previous owner put in a heavy duty clutch spring.

No the 21° ramps are discontinued. Part numbers below. When they went to the 'A' suffix they changed for all Twin Cams. When you look up parts online you only get the superseded part numbers. To get the original part numbers you have to have factory original period correct parts manuals. I have several years, but unfortunately not all of them.

First released in 2000
outer ramp 25605-00 21 Degs
inner ramp 25604-00 21 Degs

released in 2006 part of HD's Reduced Effort Clutch Kit
outer ramp 25605-00A 18 Degs
inner ramp 25604-00A 18 Degs

By the way, your 1998 has 18° ramps that are different parts numbers from the TC parts.

Last used in the 1999's
Outer ramp 25453-87A 18°
Inner ramp 25452-87A 18°

Aha, thanks very much for clarifying that, I stand corrected, and now I know not to bother changing mine as they are already 18 degrees. . FWIW I did lube the cable and that helped a lot.

When the 21° ramps went obsolete, I bought several sets so that I have them. You can see these were made in 2001 and do not have the 'A' suffix.
